The death toll on German roads with no speed limits also declined and at a faster rate, but such is the Liberal habit, sad to say, of approaching things with " we need more/tougher laws" without regard to enforceability and even less regard to results is hard to break.

I mentioned it mostly to avoid my own liberal smugness, because we don't have the answers to everything and we're not necessarily more pragmatic than our opponents. They demanded a study be done. It was and it showed that since the increasing of speed limits on our highways - fatalities had steadily DROPPED! The talk of dropping the speed limit faded away.
If only we could have such reasoned, well-researched studies for other aspects of our society before someone jumps on the "let's fix what ain't broke!" bandwagon.
OCTO - I am here and I see you. This will probably not become law, but it is a program the Republicans have tried to kill for years.

Yesterday there was a Defense cut for an engine in the billions. The engine will not be stopped from being made, only one plant was cut. The engine is still being made at another plant.

But the plant that will be shut down, was in the Republican speakers district. Just hours after that vote the speaker came out to the press and said he was prepared to shut down the government. Something he has not said up to yesterday.

Of course the budget is all about politics and political ideology. Common sense, or peoples real needs, be dammed.

Pandering to voters by chanting "cut taxes" while bankrupting America over the last 30 years; is not only irresponsible and hurting America, but purely political.

Those who claim (Republicans) to have their children and grandchildren's best interests in mind as they make policy and law, must explain how their irresponsible fiscal policies are best for future Americans. Unlike true austerity measures -- service rollbacks, furloughs, and other temporary measures that cause pain but save money -- rolling back worker's bargaining rights by itself saves almost nothing on its own. But Walker's doing it anyhow, to knock down a barrier and allow him to cut state employee benefits immediately ...

Furthermore, this broadside comes less than a month after the state's fiscal bureau -- the Wisconsin equivalent of the Congressional Budget Office -- concluded that Wisconsin isn't even in need of austerity measures, and could conclude the fiscal year with a surplus [my bold]. In fact, they say that the current budget shortfall is a direct result of tax cut policies Walker enacted in his first days in office [my bold].

A direct assault on workers, the middle class, and the Wisconsin Democratic Party whose support comes from labor unions. Consider this a Tea Party Putsch, pure and simple.

Rocky, if you are reading this, remember: You are in charge and you may need to intervene and put Octopus in the cooler for awhile.(O)CT(O)PUShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07589336822561030860noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5396840695026739991.post-58234899261102766712011-02-18T13:43:41.560-05:002011-02-18T13:43:41.560-05:00I am astonished at how callous and savage this cou...I am astonished at how callous and savage this country is becoming, and how the proto-fascists are dominating public debate.
