Cycle 24 hasn't really appeared yet and it's more than a year overdue. The peaks have been growing smaller since the massive peak in about 1959 and there's speculation that we're headed for another long spell with very few spots -- just like we had during the chilly Maunder Minimum.

This process isn't something we have millennia of data for and so we really don't know what was happening with the sun during the Medieval warming period, for instance. I've also read that the pan evaporation rate is much lower than previously and probably because of increased particulates in the air. Cleaning it up may produce more warming! It could be that warming would be far more obvious in the low latitudes if mitigating factors weren't in place, but who knows?

I'm not denying that the heat is on, but I remain suspicious of long term linear projections based on one variable in chaotic systems with unknown variables. In the long run, we will probably have another ice age and in the longer run our species will undoubtedly go extinct along with the frogs whether this generation succeeds in "saving the planet" or "goes green" or not. What species remain will be happier without us and have a lot more room to stretch their tentacles.Capt.
