The only creativity coming out of the Republican tribe these days seems to center around new and ever more precious ways to denounce Barak Obama. Still sweating from the effort it took to convince themselves that Obama Supporters see him as the second coming, they're mocking him for not being a messiah.
Take Senator Kit Bond (R-MO) for instance. Hoping you won't remember George Bush's pathetic swoons about looking into Vladimir Putin's eyes and seeing a soul mate, Bond told reporters yesterday that The president's trip to Moscow was a huge pile of shit because nothing was accomplished but an agreement to reduce the huge pile of nukes. Obama should, says Bond, have stopped the repression of the Russian media and commanded them to sanction North Korea if he were a president worth his salt. Obama has simply failed, in one magical moment, to make Russia an obedient, American client state -- as John McCain and Sarah Palin surely would have done with a great flourish of bluster, threat and bravado - and at a lower cost. George Bush? Who?

The degree of juvenile sniping especially among public officials is truly disturbing.
ReplyDeleteInstead of whining in front of the media outlets, why not march right over to the White House and tell Obama to his face?
If it was a prerequsite to face someone first before you could go out and besmirch them publically, do you think it might cut a large protion of the BS we are forced to endure on a daily basis?
Way to go, Rocky! You've hit the proverbial nail on the head. When they filter their sniping through the media it's almost kinda like the anonymous venomous sniping that goes on in the blogosphere. When we don't have to own what we say face to face - thereby acknowledging we are dealing with a fellow human - our basest selves rise the fore.
ReplyDeleteSquid - you're right, this kind of behavior is also reflected in the blogosphere. The problem with this kind of anonymity is the lack of civility filters we tend to use in face to face discussions.
ReplyDeleteEasy to call people vile names when your mouth is closed and your fingers are flying but would we see such behavior if we were all in the same room?
Me, I tend to be a bit sharp tongued but here or out in the world, I try to maintain a standard of civility and temper my comments accordingly. I will always speak my mind but I try to think ahead enough so I don't say something hurtful or damaging.
That is why I refuse to engage trolls - their agenda is purely negative and there is nothing to be gained. When I find a blog infested with trolls and the blog host encouraging them, I usually stop visiting.
Communication should be based on sharing ideas, views, information and goals. Anything else is a waste of time.
