To be honest - I think the song is confusing - almost too sarcastic to be effective. Out of context especially I'm not sure I would have immediately understood what side they were on. The people in the room looked confused as well. I can't help but wonder if they thought the people were being escorted just because they were interrupting a speech - not because of the content of their lyrics.
Nope - not direct enough I don't think. Maybe I'm just dense - but the debate needs to be clearly stated - sarcasm has its limits.
I agree, Matt and it's too much like a spoof of itself and won't convince one single Republican. Sure it's funny be we don't want them to think of us as funny, but as an angry majority -- which we are.
Capt 'n all, I don't think this performance was designed to convince Republicans. It was, IMO, delightfully surprising and well done at that, with flair and satirical charm typical of Billionaires for Wealthcare.
While the performance took place inside the hotel conference room, this was going on outside. No, none of it will convince a Republican (BTW, do you think they are convinceable? I have not seen any signs indicating that.)
Very few ever convert, if I may call it that. If they occasionally do it's never because of noise in the street. Change has to be forced to some extent, as happened with women's suffrage, desegregation and other things.
Of course keep in mind that I'm a hopeless pessimist.

A flash mob! (well maybe not a mob exactly but at least a flash group).
ReplyDeleteI loved it!
When does it open on Broadway?
ReplyDelete"Public Option: The Musical." (LOL)
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, I've been saying those words for months now. This whole debate has reminded me of nothing so much as "1776."
