I Want My MSNBC

My local cable monopoly has decided to move MSNBC to a premium level so only the wealthy can afford to watch Maddow dissect right-wing narratives. I've written doggerel for the occasion, set to this tune:

Now look at them yo-yo's that's the way you do it
You play the race card on the Fox TV
That is workin' that's the way we do it
Teabaggers marchin' on Fox TV
Now that is workin' that's the way we do it
Local rednecks, them guys are dumb
Beck can do the wacky on your little wingers
Bill-O gets em twisted up and numb

We gotta install fear of the other
Custom lobby derivatives
We gotta lose these equivocators
We gotta own their colour TV's

See the little maggot with the wiring and the makeup
Yeah buddy that's his own hair
That bigger maggot wants his own pro ball team
And Rupert Murdoch is a billionaire

We gotta instill fear of the other
Custom lobby derivatives
We gotta lose these equivocators
We gotta own their colour TV's

Ailes has learned how to play the race card
Hannity's learned to beat the drums
Look at that blah blah, we got it comin out the camera
Man this is a lotta fun
And he's up there, what's that? Hawaiian noises?
Bangin' public option like a chimpanzee
Call him liar that's the way we do it
Money for nothin' but controversy

We gotta instill fear of the other
Custom lobby derivatives
We gotta lose these equivocators
We gotta own their colour TV's, Lord

Now that ain't workin' that's the way we do it
They call our bullshit on MSNBC
That ain't workin' that's the way we do it
Call up Comcast and move it to pay feed
Money for nothin' but controversy

I want my
I want my

Sterling! Very well done. Is this available for dissensemination to the masses? I'm thinking "Jesus' General" would be a nice place for it.

  2. That's brilliant, really! But moving a news channel to premium status foreshadows what will happen if the corporate patsies like McCain allow ISPs to make anything they don't like, so slow that they can't compete.

Our future could well be a Fox world.

  3. Paying extra for "liberal news?" Isn't that a whack on the side of the head! Time to bring back the Fairness Doctrine.

  4. Matt, this story is HUGE! Time to make a BIG STINK! One suggestion: Write to Josh Marshall and let TPM know of this; do a Huff Post; go viral; go national! We can't let them get away with this! What a disaster!

  5. I agree with (O)CT(O)PUS, this is HUGEly disturbing.
Limiting news outlets to only those that are duly sanctioned sounds pretty commie to me, but I guess they would miss that irony completely.
Name the company and where they are headquartered - I'd like to send them a note...

  6. As it happens, I am busy banging out a HuffPo column on this so I don't have time to respond to comments fully; but for future reference, whenever I post a parody they are meant to be copied, distributed, and even made into hilarious YouTube videos.

  7. Ah, the fairness doctrine. I've written about it a couple of times and the subject is a powerful troll magnet. It's "CENSORSHIP" you see.

  8. Okay, just checking in to update: this seems to be the result of a bad decision by GE and a play for bandwidth by Comcast. MSNBC is being shoved upwards into the digital cable-only tier to make room for crap. Details later.

  10. Be glad those of yo that get MSNBC. In Quincy Il. we don't get it. We don't get Air America. We don't get Ed Schultz. We do get healthy doses of every right wing wacko on the airwaves though.

  11. T101, time to complain to the FCC. You do appreciate the implications ... when an entire population is exposed to only one viewpoint. What kind of "freedom of choice" is this?
