Rogue numbers

Would it really surprise anyone these days to see Fox News using stock footage from the Oklahoma land rush to show how many people "spontaneously" show up at a Fox planned and organized rally? It certainly doesn't surprise me when they fail to check out stories that appear on web sites or refuse to apologize when caught inventing stories like some city in Michigan "banning" Christmas. They know we're gullible and they know that if feels good to believe, it will be believed.

Still I'm ever amazed at their confidence in our gullibility and unquestioning belief. How many Fox friends looked at this and bothered to do the arithmetic? How many just saw it and thought " hey, that Sarah's gonna be our next President!"

Amazing.

  1. I imagine the conversation at Fox went something like this:

Employee 1: "Okay, we have three separate pieces of data. How can we show each of those pieces relative to each other in an aesthetically pleasing yet mathematically accurate way?"

Employee 2: "Yeah, that's a good question. We want our data representation to be easy to follow cuz God knows our viewers aren't smart enough to transform numbers into pictures on their own."

Employee 1: "Right, but we don't want to spend very much time on this. We've got to doctor some photos of the president to show him wearing a turban."

Employee 3: "Boom! - Pie chart! We do a pie chart."

    Employee 2: "I don't know if a pie chart will - "

Employee 3: "I said, 'boom! - pie chart!'"

    Employee 1: "Works for me."

Employee 2: "Alright. Let's pie-chart the hell out of that data!"

    (End scene)

There isn't even a subversive reason for doing this - they're just idiots.

  2. A turd, a turd, and a turd. Yup, Fox News strikes again!

  3. You could even call it a turd pie (chart).

BTW, I love it (the chart) -- this is some advanced conservative arithmetic!

  4. I posted a link to this from my blog. A few posts ago I documented other stupid mistakes and idiocy that seems to be the norm for FOX.

This is the highest rated cable news station. That fact alone depresses and frightens me and makes me think of this:

    Albert Einstein:

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe."

  5. My guess is that 70% of the employees at Fox News are bad at math while the other 60% are extremely bad at math.

Much like good ol' Sarah, Fox News is projecting to its followers by showing that they are also ignorant and uneducated - one mustn't appear snobbish by appearing too informed or intelligent.

  6. I agree 273% with all the above.

  8. There are three kinds of people in the world: those who are good at math and those who aren't.

But this is scary -- there are more Republicans than I thought. They're 193% of themselves!

Is this the same kind of math and logic skills they use to evaluate the scientific evidence for global warming?

  9. Is it dumb or dumber that they have 193% instead of 200%?

  10. I believe their counting system is based on grain alcohol, and proof is a state of mind having no relationship to factual reality.

  11. That must be it - 193 proof at least!
