As the water in my aquarium clears from my recent ink-fit, perhaps I should close the week on a lighthearted note. In case you missed it, here is a hilarious send-up of arch-climate denier munchkin-in-chief, Lord Christopher Monckton, complements of Bouphonia: The Habitual Dirigisme of Etatistes.
About this record-breaking winter, the jealous among you might note that it is bitter cold in Florida too. When parking the car, our normal strategy is to play for shade so you don’t burn your fingers on the steering wheel. This week, we play for sunshine so our fingers don’t stick to the steering wheel. As I looked from my window this morning at the yard below, the birds were using mittens to pull worms from the ground. Here is more cold comfort for you:
Gee, those pictures make me glad I live in the South - almost.
ReplyDeleteHey, you stole my idea for a post today, Octo! :) With almost exact same pictures -- plus a couple from my own backyard where the white hell has broken loose (and is still going). It is a nuisance, but it looks beautiful, I must admit.
ReplyDeleteBTW, the kitty with the hat is adorable. (Though one should never do THAT to one's pet, according to my dog.)
Please stop by my blog. When you do you will see I have a weather widget on my side bar. Right now - 1/8/10 - 1:40pm the temp is -17F. That's nothing, 12 hours from now supposed to be close to -30F. That's temp. The wind chill is -50F. The Sun is out, so it is a good day.
ReplyDeleteOh, my, Tom! That is cccccooollldddd!!!!!!!!!!!! Where are you, Siberia?!?
ReplyDeleteHi Rocknc,
ReplyDeleteNorthern Minnesota. I think Siberia is even a little worse.
Nice photo!
I noticed Pam, Shaw, and you, now post your photo's. Nice looking group.
The dog looks better than I do. I'll keep that photo.
Yeah, I second the photo, Rocky -- nice!
ReplyDeleteTom, your dog is pretty nice too. ;)
Tom, it's part of a plan of humanizing the blogosphere. A discussion came up at another blog and I made the observation that the internet, while having many positive features also tends to dehumanize us with our fanciful gravatars and so I thought I would follow in the footsteps of those who are putting a face to their names - like I told Pam, it will be a lot harder for her to delete me if she has to look at my innocent, smiling face! ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Elizabeth and I am happy I can see you too!
ReplyDeleteCome on Tom, we're all letting it hang out, might as well join us and we'll start a revolution of sorts.
I'm always up for a little rabble rousing!

ReplyDeleteThis is an excellent point, Rocky -- I couldn't agree more.
Now if we could only get the rest of the Zoners show their pretty visages, that'll be swell!
P.S. Octo and Dino, yes, I know what you'll say, but I'm beginning to suspect that those are not your real pics, after all. ;)
You're right about Octo - that picture was taken years ago. There's a lot less blue in his hair these days.
ReplyDeleteBut what's all that white stuff? it was 73 and sunny here today!
it was 73 and sunny here today!
ReplyDeleteStop it NOW!
;)
Captain: I'm with Elizabeth...STOP it now! It's 15 here and snowing (Pennsylvania). I'm freezing. It's pretty, but I like the warmth. I know, why the heck am I in Pa? Well, I have to wait for my youngest to graduate (he's 12). I don't want to take him out of the only school he's ever known.
ReplyDeleteShaw's the one who began the "photo movement", then me and now Rocky. What say you Octo? Even if you have less "blue" in your hair-- let's "humanize the blogosphere"! (that rhymes!)
Like I said, Rocky, somehow I don't think you'll give me reason to delete you! But my delete button has been busy lately!
This is a really neat satellite picture of the entire UK covered in snow:

I've already had my comeuppance - the next evening it dropped to 31 overnight and damn near that last night. Freezing tems are a big big deal down here. Houses aren't built for it, nor boats nor orange groves. People who were born and raised hear don't have coats or sweaters and sometimes not even long sleeve shirts.
