Something Bursts Forth

From Whiskey River via my friend John Simpson:

Cutting Loose
for James Dickey
Sometimes from sorrow, for no reason,
you sing. For no reason, you accept
the way of being lost, cutting loose
from all else and electing a world
where you go where you want to.
Arbitrary, a sound comes, a reminder
that a steady center is holding
all else. If you listen, that sound
will tell you where it is and you
can slide your way past trouble.
Certain twisted monsters
always bar the path — but that’s when
you get going best, glad to be lost,
learning how real it is
here on earth, again and again.

And, of course, I thought of all of us at The Swash Zone.  May we find the song.

  1. Nance, having been lost many times, in the forestm in the streets of a strange city, in my mind, in love, I eventually enjoy the frightening adventure.

  3. Nice and thanks...;)

    Truth is I don't get poetry. I know I suck but I don't lie.
There was one I liked from Nantucket..
but since I'm not in a bar...
    Hey have a great day..

  4. Nance, many thanks for the poem and the uplift. May all of us find that sound, that song, that inner voice.

  5. Tim,
Would it be wrong to hope you made it to a bar before the day was out?
