Strangely, it doesn't strike me as funny; it strikes me as...tumult of words...poignant. What peculiar and endearing FOOLS we mortals be! How perverse in our sincerities! Oh, Lord. Oh, brother.
The first time I viewed this I mistranslated peches capitaux as capital sins, a literal translation but it loses the idiomatic context of the phrase. My French is really rusty. But then I realized that the more accurate translation is deadly sins as in seven deadly sins, which made me engage in a bout of renewed laughter.
