Crimson flames tied through my ears Rollin’ high and mighty traps Pounced with fire on flaming roads Using ideas as my maps “We’ll meet on edges, soon,” said I Proud ’neath heated brow Ah, but I was so much older then I’m younger than that now...
Edge, I recall listening to "My Back Pages" repeatedly as I tried to learn the lyrics and unravel their meaning. I really didn't understand the refrain back then--"Ah, but I was so much older then I’m younger than that now..."
I don't know that I totally get it now but somehow it makes a lot more sense to me.

Obligatory observation about this making me feel old. Almost everything does these days :)
ReplyDeleteTangled up in Blue is one of my favorites of his.
Old is OK. To every season. Love Tangled up in Blue.
ReplyDeleteI think my fav has always been Shelter From The Storm.
ReplyDeleteCan't believe he's 70! What does that make me? Ummm, never mind...
Dylan turned 70? My 20s were measured out in songs by Dylan. I'm still younger than he is.
ReplyDeleteWell Sheria, maybe these lyrics finally fit:
ReplyDeleteCrimson flames tied through my ears
Rollin’ high and mighty traps
Pounced with fire on flaming roads
Using ideas as my maps
“We’ll meet on edges, soon,” said I
Proud ’neath heated brow
Ah, but I was so much older then
I’m younger than that now...
And it's a damn fine poem, too.

The lyrics do make a damn fine poem.
