So, Michelle Bachmann has won the Iowa Straw Poll. What does this mean for the country?
She's gotten more coverage in the last few weeks than she could've hoped for. On the basis of his showing in the straw poll, Tim Pawlenty dropped out of the race. Our submissive media has been trumpeting this particular "first American caucus" as if it were the most important indicator of the election.
Well, I think it's important to note one little detail about the history of this particular poll.
The Ames Straw Pole has been held a total of six times (in 1979, and then in 1987, 1995, 1999, 2007 and now in 2011). In all that time, it correctly predicted the upcoming president of the United States once. In real terms, that is an accuracy rate of 17%.
It's roughly as accurate as throwing a handful of corn over a list of candidates, and letting the chicken choose the winner.
So the results mean less than nothing, and we can expect to see the GOP continue to do what they've always done.
That, my friends, is the importance to the American political landscape of the Ames Straw Poll.
I like the chicken idea. It has merit.
ReplyDelete"throwing a handful of corn over a list of candidates, and letting the chicken choose the winner."
ReplyDeleteWhat about staking them all out on an anthill and let the ants choose?
Short answer: An Obama victory next year. What a pathetic line-up. I agree. Paul looks like the elder statesman/voice of reason. Romney shot himself in the foot a long time ago with health insurance reform. That's more or less the kiss of death to the modern republican party. Rick Perry is at least smart enough to throw his hat in the ring late considering how wide open or empty, (take your pick,) the field is right now.
ReplyDeleteI've been hoping the Republican choice for 2012 would be just too looney tunes for the voters, but since we see these fruit cakes mostly through the eyes of the fair and balanced media it may not matter. They could make Tiny Tim seem a serious contender and have us all tiptoeing through the tulips.
ReplyDeleteLast week, fellow bloggist Southern Beale gave us this phrase:
ReplyDeleteRead my lips - no new Texans.
Catchy, isn't it !!!
The Main Stream Media (MSM) turned Sarah Palin into a perennial household presence and gave legitimacy to the Tea Party dolts. As the state of journalism continues to sink ever lower, I wouldn't put it bast the MSM to "image" yet another unqualified person into the White House. After all, the MSM is also intrenched Corporate America.
ReplyDeleteNameless,
ReplyDeleteAbout that thing Michelle Munchkin is munching on, does this explain her appeal to Iowa voters?
Robert - the MSM made her a household name, but couldn't sanitize her enough to make her appeal to a majority of voters. And she's never forgiven them. Thus, her excoriation of the "Lame-Stream Media" - not for lying about her, but for showing too much of the truth.
ReplyDeleteOcto - Yup. Hers, and perhaps Rick Perry's. (Oddly enough, her Richard Simmons-clone of a husband doesn't seem to enjoy deepthroating a mighty rod of meat - who'd'a thunk it?)
Nameless,
ReplyDeleteEureka! All Republicans have an oral fixation. That explains everything (and I'll bet there is no difference between a Republican and a suppository either).
