The right's take on the President's horses and bayonets is yet another example of its inability to listen accurately. The President did not say that no bayonets were used by the military. In response to Romney's attempt at a gotcha observation that the President had harmed the military by cutting its budget and leaving the poor Navy with fewer ships than in 1916, the President pointed out that the nature of warfare and its weapons had changed considerably since 1916 and that there were also fewer horses and bayonets in todays military. Don't these people ever actively listen or read entire stories?
No they don't! and people are still pushing that Romney bullshit about how "we don't dictate to other countries - - we free them from dictators." I can name hundreds of dictators we have supported, but it does no good. I once saw a demonstration of hypnotism where the hypnotist told the subject that he would become invisible to the subject. It worked and even when the hypnotist stood directly in front of him, the subject simply looked away.
Looking on the internet for lists of dictators supported by the US, I came up with hundreds. Virtually any genocidal, and even cannibalistic monster would get our support as long as they said they didn't like Commies. The list of elected governments we have overthrown isn't short either. Of course Romney is right if we define any socialist as a dictator but look the other way if he only kills a million or so of his citizens. We've swept it under the rug, but Hitler had a lot of support in the US in the '30s. There was a company called LINEOL that produced Hitler action figures sold in toy stores.
Yes, nations can be as insane and as dishonest as individuals.
We welcome civil discourse from all people but express no obligation to allow contributors and readers to be trolled. Any comment that sinks to the level of bigotry, defamation, personal insults, off-topic rants, and profanity will be deleted without notice.

Alas, the venerable P-38 can opener is history. Ah, well.
ReplyDeleteNo, they're still widely available, but I don't think MRE's come in cans.
