You can't Handle the Truth

What a revolting development! We all thought we had until at least late January to do something about the debt ceiling. Guess what. Eliminate the deficit? All it takes is to eliminate deficit spending. It's time to hit the vested interests that are killing our fair democracy where it hurts. Debt ceiling? Why do you think we have one? We are going to hit it. No problem. What do you think caused this crisis in the first place? Let's start by selling some weapons, planes and tanks. As many as we possibly can to friendly nations. (Are there any other kind?) We can build and design them faster than anyone. No nation will challenge us in battle. To do so would be economic suicide. Let's follow through. And I'm not bullshitting this time. No more nuclear weapons. Ever. Who the hell is in charge of this mess anyhow? Tell me we're not still building nuclear weapons. Not one more dollar to new nukes! Le'ts save up our money for decommissioning nukes and safely storing the requisite wastes. The rich can bite their tax increase. Live in the Cayman Islands if you feel that strongly. The rest of us will get temporary tax cuts. Republicans will be unable to oppose tax cuts to the middle class. Half of their base are wage slaves. We will extend unemployment benefits. But not forever. We are going to get this machine working again. We're not going to take people hurt by the depression and throw them to the winds. But we are also going to help those who do not currently receive unemployment benefits. That's right. We are going to help poor people who haven't had jobs for years or decades or ever. How will we do this without austerity? Without cutting "entitlements?" We will do this by eliminating luxury perqs and selling off the assets of the U.S. military and other bloated departments. No more travel. No more restaurants. No more hotels. Hillary already trotted the entire globe on our behalf. Nobody else needs to go anywhere at all. Let them be honored guests of the countries that they are engaging. Let's give the Tea Party their due. No more new taxes to the middle class.

    The truth is Teapublicans have one agenda and thats to destroy Barack Obama and the Democratic Party, BUT unfortunately the people have caught on and will have none of it! The Teapubs are so delusional they are working harder than ever to destroy the Republican Party! LMAO!

    Here's to ending tax cuts to the filthy rich, raising the debt ceiling, banning military style weapons, saving SS and Medicare, TAKING BACK THE HOUSE in 2014 so we can move FORWARD!!!

      let's be careful in our passion that we can't be accused of being delusional as well, or at least too willing to accept dogma without question. Indeed, I think we often are and I include myself in that. There's that Nietzsche thing about fighting monsters, you know.

      I don't share the idea that raising the marginal rate from a historical low is "soaking" anyone. Seems to me that prosperity seems to be higher during periods of high rates and that marginal rates below 40 or 50% seem to create short booms and disastrous busts.

    That's my hope, that they die of frustration and conniption. I think most of the GOP is aware of how they threw away the election, pissed off 90% of the women and a whole lot of other people. I hope they choose to change rather that to get better at putting on the sheep's clothing!

    I guess I was a little bit over the top with eliminating the deficit. But we all have seen what happens when the minority party has chosen to use the debt ceiling as a desperate bargaining chip. Sadly, even if we cut deficit spending to zero, the national debt will continue to rise. Just like your balance on a credit card or a line-of-credit when you only pay the minimum. sooner or later, you gotta start paying some of that money back.

      Exactly FJ. We have let it go so long we must cut expenditures and increase revenue. Revamping the antiquated tax code would be a real plus.

      But then again what do I know? After all I'm a fiscal conservative.

      I've read that 87% of "Obama's spending spree" consists of debt service and of course his predecessor (nobody seems to remember him) gave us what I think was the largest debt increase in my lifetime.

      Ironic isn't all this when the GOP and its leaders have told us so often that debt doesn't matter -- that's when they're in power, that is.

      rEpublicans SHOULD be advocates of, and adherents to Hyek and his economics. Yet in practice they are Keynesians.

      In reality the powers that be are far from fiscal conservative or fiscally responsible.

      Here is a quote for you RN from Hayek himself:

      Yep, Hayek was a proponent of social safety nets.

      The only real difference between Hayek and Keynes was over the issue of "central planning" of the economy. Otherwise both of them would have been appalled at the crony capitalism of today.

      The republicans are only advocates for what enriches them alone, they don't give a damn about the country as a whole.

      Obama is more an adherent of Hayek than any republican ever could be; Hayek would have approved of Obamacare.

      I was of course referring to their differences.

      Thomas Paine and Hayek would like have agreed on much as well.

      He may have approved of ObamaCare. We'll never know for sure. He of course isn't here to read the fine print.
