Holy, Holy, Holy

I just knew that bearded duck-calling dipshit would come out of this a hero.  You can still smell the stink of the phoney outrage about his getting suspended for review for a few days, but as of yesterday there was a big new display of Duck Dynasty crap at the Winn-Dixie and today Fat Matt Barber of the Far Right radio station Liberty Counsel is scheduled to air his encomium to the hero who stood up to the bullies. Bullies, of course being the "gaystapo" and his employers who pay him to jape and mug and act like the stereotypical redneck with money.

Funny though, isn't it, that when any other employee stands up to an employer who doesn't pay enough or provide safe working conditions and decent benefits -- that's Communism. Hypocrisy?  Hell no, it's the national disease. It's the national sickness.  It's the death of freedom, Democracy and human decency: it's Christian fundamentalism and it's being preached all over the land every day of the week.

But no, says the pious patriot. Ol' Phil stood there on "principle" and spoke with "love" against the "tyranny of the minority" and after all what's more tyrannical than asking for dignity and  equal protection under the law?  What's more loving than slander, insult and condemnation?  No, submitting to common decency and the law of the United States would be like "negotiating with Terrorists"  Like submitting to "Homofascism."

“This tyranny of the minority has been taking place for too long now and Americans, when they stand up, when the double down and say ‘no, I’m not going to waiver from biblical truth on matters of human sexuality, it’s like okay, what are you going to do now? Nothing. They go away and lick their wounds.”

Or so he wishes.  If he's right, America has no future.  The rest of the world will have to destroy us for their own good and safety.  If he's wrong there will be a long line waiting to piss on his grave.

I see it as a opportunity - or should I say another opportunity for decent people to shout him down from every pulpit in the land, an opportunity I'm dead certain will be missed, passed over in favor of defensive mumbling, disclaimers and smug piety.  It's not enough to say we had nothing to do with this.  It's barely enough to go out in the street next Sunday -- by the thousands and tens of thousands and hundreds of thousands. It's barely enough to take responsibility for centuries of looking the other way at best and participating at worst. It's your original sin. Stand up and tell these subversives, tyrants and Biblical blowhards they're wrong, they're enemies of freedom and not patriots. Stand up and deal with it before it deals with you.

  1. Nothing like a good rant to get the adrenaline pumping. Yes, I am plenty pissed … pissed at the Fundamentalists for their abject hypocrisy, pissed at the GOP for obstruction and sabotage, pissed at rampant chicanery and corruption in our public life, and pissed that every moral argument degenerates into partisan spin – as if there are no more objective standards of right and wrong or basic human decency anymore.

Witness the controversy over Bridget’s bridge jam. Here is an act of political terrorism against an entire metropolis and an outrageous abuse of power. The health, safety, and welfare of an entire city brought to its knees; tens of thousands of people (35.7 thousand to be exact – people of all persuasions including Democrats and Republicans and innocent children) put at risk; gridlock lasting for days, emergency response teams brought to a standstill; one person dead of cardiac arrest; citizens unable to work; lost wages …

… yet there are dumb shit people, including some of our readers and so-called friends, who regard this controversy as a “Liberal/Progressive … attempt to Destroy Governor Christie.” Commenters cite public opinion polls as justification for illegal and immoral behavior. "Boys will be boys" and "pols will be pols," they say to protect their Great White Hope for 2016.

We read of 300,000 people without clean water and sanitation; yet here is Speaker Boehner proclaiming: “We have enough regulations” as he uses the occasion to take another jab at the president (please notice the non sequitur always wielded as a distraction).

The morally bankruptcy is beyond the pall. Yes, I agree:

If partisan civil war is what they want, then partisan civil war is what they’ll get. I refuse to suffer assholes anymore!

    2. Too many of some regulations, not enough of others, but that's too complicated for the people -- takes too much mental effort but the objective of that slogan is to make people angry so that they don't think. Yes, we need to make this or that illegal, but all you have to say is "too many regulations" when an oil platform blows up and the cerebral cortex shuts down with a grateful sigh because it doesn't have to work.

We're tribal animals and we need to belong to a tribe, and things like the Klan and brimstone fundamentalism will gladly accept people nobody else will as long as they seem angry enough. They are magnets for misfits. They make marginal people feel important and having someone to share anger and frustration with makes you feel good. Being people who share certain dislikes, we can't deny that can we? Misery likes company and so does anger and people are willing to pay for it. (Am I hinting that Fatt Matt is a two bit whore? -- yes I am)

So where are we if it makes losers feel good to look down on others and make them miserable what with all the losers out there? We can't change them easily, we can only go so far with making laws if we still respect freedom, but we can make noise too. We can make people embarrassed to say idiotic Biblical things. We can stop watching the Duck Schmucks - Capitalism grants us certain powers after all - and we can make some of them feel, sometimes, that even with a bible, a pulpit, a million fans and a bedsheet, they're still stupid, ignorant and nasty losers and any God who thinks they're not a piece of shit is a God they invented for the purpose. There's a tradition that the Devil can quote the Bible -- and he sure as hell does. Just turn on the radio.

Tyranny of the minority Republicans in the House is what's slowed down our recovery and what has driven them to voting 40+ times to repeal the A.C.A. They're quite vigilant when it comes to discovering "tyranny" in others, and are always completely blind to their own.

What's that saying I've been reading on the "intertubes?" " Even if your religion says it's okay to hate gays, it's still bigotry."

    1. I remember the early days of "All in the Family" when Archie Bunker somehow emerged as a folk hero what with his contempt for liberals, gays and especially his black neighbor. How ironic, but then the people who wore "Bunker for President" buttons were too damn stupid to know they were being mocked.

Maybe this is hell - maybe I'm just too dumb to know it.

  5. I am too tired to be pissed any more. These loonie dimwits just reinforce my belief that there are just too many people in the world. Too many soul sucking, resource wasting takers and not enough soul nourishing, energy producing givers. So I'm going to give up wasting energy being pissed off at ignorant, hateful, stupid bastards. I'm going to look for the joy in each day and try to spread it around. I'm going to seek out those who make me happy to be alive and just pick my nose or fart loudly when the morons are around... :)
