CYBER BULLIES AND THE BLOGGERS WHO ENABLE THEM

By (O)CT(O)PUS

If you happen to be the wrong gender, in the wrong neighborhood, or on the wrong side of the Tea Party, criminal acts now have a partisan bias. Not all partisans! Most conservatives, liberals and libertarians – with their moral compass fully intact – condemn sadistic acts of malice. Yet, there appears to be a radical fringe that rejects all standards of common decency. When I first learned of this incident …

Sexual harassment and threats of sexual violence
prompted Shaw Kenawe to suspend her web log

... I posted a quick announcement on this web log, Who’s Your Daddy - a forum frequented by the same predators who tormented Shaw. The proprietress of subject blog issued an immediate denial:

Lisa: “Nobody here has ever made any direct threats” [Deleted].

In a follow-up post, I described these malicious acts (source):

"Hate messages, threats of sexual violence, allusions to smearing
victims in excrement – illustrated with vile pornography."

Hardly free speech, threats of physical violence meet the legal definition of “attempted assault.” Threats of sexual violence meet the legal definition of ‘predation.’  Any distribution of unsolicited and unwanted pornography is a violation of state and Federal laws. ALL ARE CRIMINAL OFFENSES!

In response to my article cross-posted at Progressive Eruptions, the proprietress of Who’s Your Daddy commandeered a discussion thread with blanket denials:
LisaBeing you are all about free speech … Don't blame me for something others do” (September 30, 2014 at 9:59 PM).
Lisa: “I had nothing to do with any of whatever it is you claim happened” (September 30, 2014 at 10:04 PM).
Lisa: “Nobody ever threatened you on my blog” (September 30, 2014 at 10:32 PM). LisaHey Octo … or shithead” (October 1, 2014 at 4:37 PM).
LisaLike I stated before and this is the last time, I am not responsible for what others post on your blog” (October 1, 2014 at 4:42 PM)
The argument is not over comments posted on Shaw’s blog, but over comments posted on Lisa’s blog by her patrons. In essence, the argument is about hosting and enabling predators.

Apparently, Teflon Lisa has now decided to play the victim card. Consider the irony: My original post was NOT ABOUT LISA but about malice in Cyberspace. Yet, reactive and combative, Lisa turned the focus of attention to herself by denying the offenses and defending the offenders.

Given this turn of events, I am now compelled to show actual examples. By no means trivial, these examples demonstrate the kinds of harassment, humiliation, and torment endured by Shaw, not just in Cyberspace but sent to her private email account.

THE GOODS ON TEFLON LISA

Radical Redneck posted this comment on Lisa’s web log:
Radical Redneck: “Shaw will hide her fornicator’s head in unprecedented shame by ANY MEANS NECESSARY!” (March 12, 2012 at 11:12 AM).
Embedded in Radical Redneck’s comment is a live link that brings you to a website containing offensive pornography. WARNING: Reader discretion advised.
Here is a direct exchange between Lisa and Radical Redneck:
Lisa [speaking directly to Radical Redneck]: “Hey RR the link doesn't work” (August 26, 2011 at 9:21 PM)
Radical Redneck: “http://img31.imagevenue.com/img.php?loc=loc49&image=44132_14833499.jpg” (August 27, 2011 at 11:46 AM).

Here is another comment posted by Radical Redneck on Lisa’s web log:
Radical Redneck: “Shaw and her “Life Partner” celebrate Ogabe’s *Spit* victory!” (February 18, 2011 at 7:14 PM).
Embedded in Radical Redneck’s comment is a live link that brings you to a website containing offensive pornography. WARNING: Reader discretion advised.
Yet another comment by Radical Redneck posted on Lisa’s web log:
Radical Redneck: “Chaw is sucking worthless … pick up a thug gaggle and resemble a negroe [sic] porcupine with the countless pricks going in you” (August 29, 2014 at 9:00 AM).
Radical Redneck: “Poor, simple, stupid pest Chaw. Devastated that she's far too contrived and annoying to ever get a black guy, and much to hideous to ever dream of a white guy, must compensate with banal trolling while consuming her default daddy's latest Cleveland Steamer (he always gives her a big one for Kwaanza) out of old Ben & Jerry's containers” (July 16, 2011 at 12:14 PM).
[From the Urban Dictionary: ‘Cleveland Steamer’ is defined as a crude fetishistic sex act whereupon one person – the ‘cacaphile’ - defecates on the chest of another person and smears excrement by rocking back and forth like a steam roller.]
Clearly, Lisa’s offal of denial does not pass the sniff test.  Not merely isolated examples, there are dozens of lurid comments, links to disturbing images, and threatening email messages sent to private email accounts - clearly a persistent and pervasive pattern of Cyber-Bullying.
Radical Redneck: “Shaw has never looked better!” (August 22, 2011 at 11:26 PM).
Embedded in Radical Redneck’s comment is a live link that brings you to a website containing offensive pornography. WARNING: Reader discretion advised.
The above comment originally appeared under this post. Yesterday, it disappeared from Cyberspace along with this comment:
Rusty Shackelford: “Shaw, the FCFB* (Fat Cunt From Boston) .... chief Obama jock sniffer .....” (July 15, 2014 at 8:01 PM)
No doubt, Teflon Lisa will scour her archives clean of all comments referenced herein. No matter. Posts and comments removed from Cyberspace never completely disappear without a trace. There will always be saved texts with embedded links, screen snapshots, copies of menacing email, IP addresses, and digital records stored on computer servers … diligently documented for prosecutors and process servers. Notwithstanding, there will also be shadows of the indignant desert birds reeling in self-righteous anger grasping for self-validation:
Kenosha Marge, Liberated Conservative Women: “I'm in total agreement with all of these comments that side with you against those obnoxious liberals” (October 1, 2014 at 1:57 PM).
Exposing the Hypocrisy of the Liberal Left: “… pure ignorance and extreme bull-shit …” (October 4, 2014 at 1:14 PM).
Duckys here: “Lisa, did Rotweiler post the rape and porn material?” (October 2, 2014 at 9:31 PM).
Lisa: “Ducky get lost” (October 3, 2014 at 7:40 AM).
Postscript: Honestly! I never understood nor will I ever understand why some men … and the women who enable them … harass, humiliate, debase, defile, stalk, and torment the women of this world. Women are the mothers of all humanity! Thankfully, there are far more GOOD MEN who respect and protect their partners in life and often refer to them - lovingly - as their “better half.”

  1. As Dickens said about the internet age, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times" OK, it wasn't Dickens, but windowless vans and BMW's with blacked out windows tend to have unsavory things inside. It's the anonymity. Strangely the advent of screen names (I think AOL is responsible for that) makes it prudent to adopt one as a defense.

After decades on the web I avoid these hopeless situations, but I did read the re-opened comment section at PE. I do sympathize and I've been the target of such things myself. I was lucky enough to be able to identify the perp and I still keep the abject apology like a trophy, but winning these struggles is difficult. Still it would be fun to know who and of what gender our friend Lisa is. Where is Ed Wood to make another B movie: Larry or Lisa? Plan 9 from the Sewer? Night of the Living Perverts?

He-She-It is a great source of mirth however and at least she admits "teabegger and shithead are the same thing." Indeed they are Lisa, indeed they are and the personal touchiness regarding perceived insults is a hallmark when coupled with the unrestrained obscenities they wallow in. The feeling of inferiority that spawns such behavior is impossible to conceal. It's not just a feeling either.

Liberal bashing, with or without the ad hominem is the sport of losers and I prefer to ignore them. You have a better chance taming a vicious dog using Socratic method and so far, no 'troll whisperer' is available. One observation I will offer: it's easier to convince a smart person of his stupidity than an idiot and Parties, blogs and persuasions of her sort are refuges for inconsequential losers who think they can win something by being disgusting. If one fails in all other respects in life, one can always find acceptance and a good buddy of sorts at the bottom of the barrel. Why get in there with them? It stinks in there.

    1. A few examples of the indignant desert birds reeling in self-righteous anger grasping for self-validation:

Kid (October 4, 2014 at 6:54 PM): “Man libtards are so pathetic it's really depressing to be surrounded by so many of them.

Radical Redneck (October 5, 2014 at 6:45 PM): “Just went over to that slag heap Chaw calls a blog. Good Grief! What a sad, tiny, stupid universe she inhabits.

Lisa (October 5, 2014 at 7:33 PM): “It really is incredible RR . They always have to act all self righteous …

FreeThinke (October 6, 2014 at 3:48 AM): “None of you leftists want peace, concord or civility; your pretensions to the contrary are with rare exceptions hypocritical and manipulative. What you do want is endless strife. You THRIVE on DISSENSION -- the uglier the better.

Just Sayin! (October 7, 2014 at 4:40 AM): “I guess that what the left is trying to say, is that they want us to shut-up and do what they say, and what they want. They don’t want freedom of speech, because freedom of speech works both way, and they only want it to work THEIR way!

The Bigtimer (October 6, 2014 at 9:55 AM): “Those evil liberal bastards will stop at nothing!

[End comment: These are the sockpuppets of “hear no evil and see no evil” even after one of them (the one who calls himself “Radical Redneck”) has committed an illegal act. Anticipating this kind of reaction beforehand, it is the reason why I wrote in the previous post: “Never concede an argument (no matter how specious); always debunk opposing viewpoints (even when factual); always keep a strawman by your side (to paint your opponent in preposterously extreme terms verging on caricature); turn up the volume of tone-deafness; deny; play the victim card; attack, attack; and repeat often. QED!]

      Two more comments:

Lisa (October 7, 2014 at 6:41 AM “umm Octo get over it already. Is this some ongoing thing you are having an issue with? If so prove it. Maybe you should take your own advice and stop playing games.

(O)CT(O)PUS: (October 7, 2014 at 7:09 AM): “umm, Lisa, maybe you need to open those links and take a look under the hood - at those comments by Radical Redneck containing actual examples of offensive, indecent, and obscene material. Maybe you need to get over your DENIAL and COMPLICITY!

    2. Ordinarily I amuse myself by trying to apply some rules of logic to such melanges of ambiguous pejoratives and assertions, but these fail to rise to the level of fallacy or sophistry. I'm tempted to call it argumentum ad cloacum, or argument from the sewer but threats are something more.

I've had much experience with direct threats over the years. Attempting to deal with it by forwarding them to the hosts, like Compuserve in the old days and Blogger in more recent times has never produced results for me, but perhaps more recent events and changes in the law might have changed the apathy ( or cowardice) I think there are statutes dealing with "terroristic threats."

I think it's a fine idea to swamp Blogger and the Great Google Monster with enough to make them fear being found liable or complicit and call people to account. Perhaps the FBI or the FCC as well.

More than once I've simply offered a neutral meeting place which invariably silences them, bullies being cowards, but I'm a dude and well armed. That's why these invertibrates (no offense) pick on women and the very young..

  2. Let this serve as a warning to anyone who abuses the Internet and sends offensive, indecent, obscene and/or threatening messages: Internet troll gets jail time for tweeting rape threats:

Although 33 year-old Peter Nunn did not seem to think that there was anything wrong with said threats, having tweeted “If you can’t threaten to rape a celebrity, what is the point in having them?” his threats and harassment were taken seriously by district judge Elizabeth Roscoe, and he was sentenced to 4-5 months in prison for them. He was sentenced under section 127 of the Communications Act, which outlaws electronic messages which are “grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene, or menacing character.

(Note: There are similar laws in all 50 states and at the Federal level.)

So here is my message for Teflon Lisa: Let’s stop playing games. No more lies and deceptions. And no more playing the victim card. A crime was committed. There will be justice!

  3. A trip to USLEGAL.COM provides a definition of a "Terroristic Threat:"

A terroristic threat is a crime generally involving a threat to commit violence communicated with the intent to terrorize another, to cause evacuation of a building, or to cause serious public inconvenience, in reckless disregard of the risk of causing such terror or inconvenience. It may mean an offense against property or involving danger to another person that may include but is not limited to recklessly endangering another person, harassment, stalking, ethnic intimidation, and criminal mischief.

I think the hosting of such a threat, when the host has the ability to refuse to do so or to block the threat implies complicity. Although I'm hardly an attorney, I think it makes the individual blogger and Blogger itself accessories.

I recommend that any blogger simply delete harassing or threatening comments and forward them to authorities -- even if "just for the record"

As to participating in forums frequented by barking dogs, I would suggest the argument sovitur ambulando a policy attributed to Diogenes the cynic. You just walk away.

  4. Good advice Captain. However, sometimes it is right to stand up to the riff raff. And, I suppose it makes one good having done so.

    Then walk away.

  5. It says a lot that Lisa felt she had to delete at least one of Ducky's comments. Not because Ducky was offensive, but because Ducky's accurate assessment of the matter hit too close to home.

  7. My closing words, my "exeunt" from PE:

"So what have we learned or gained from this incident, if anything? In shining a light into the darkest corners of the Cringe Fringe, this should be obvious by now: Their ranks are filled with predators and stalkers, sadists and sociopaths, malcontents and misfits … the “indignant desert birds” of nihilism and nullification. Despite their howls of protest, denials and projections, the evidence presented here is clear enough.

If anything, I believe one unanticipated lesson has come to light. This incident reveals something - not about them - but about us … starting with the last sentence of my last post:

Incidentally, we can also choose better friends.

Why do some victims of domestic abuse and violence remain with their tormenters? Why do kidnap victims bond with their captors – this phenomenon known as Stockholm Syndrome? What attracts some people to abusers and holds them thrall? Why do some people ignore obvious signs and symptoms of abuse when others see it so clearly? Yes, this incident teaches us something about ourselves: Our blind spots, our vulnerabilities.

Answers to these questions may be very personal and private, and the Internet is not a proper venue for exploring these questions. It is constructive to ask these questions but I shall tread no further.

Besides, my mission here is complete. It is time for me to return to my watery habitat known as the Swash Zone and attend to the long neglected critters of the realm.
