Sometimes you have to eat words. Sometimes you're pleased to do it. Whether it with a roar or whisper, nonetheless I'm hearing condemnation of the slaughter of French innocents from Islamic leaders. Perhaps it's been there all along, perhaps it's been under reported, but I hear decent Muslims speaking out. Let's hope it helps, let's hope someone listens and decides not to become a jihadist. Let's hope it gets so loud no one can hear ISIS through the din.
Let's hope
I believe the delay may have been from shock and trying to figure out how best to address the most recent horror. There is also a Muslim movement called #notinmyname. I think much like main stream Christians, when the fanatic faction does something horrible, main stream Muslims do not want to be associated with such insanity nor do they approve.
ReplyDeleteWe many people have shouted themselves hoarse telling us that this is a fringe movement not representative of Islam, but that's discounted by much of the public. I think that's more prevalent in Europe than here, but it's an uphill task everywhere - and yes, that's an understatement.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the real question is not who is responsible, but who is responsible for destroying it? Who is in a position to fight it and who actually is fighting it to the best of their ability?
aw, eating words is not so bad.....I usually just toast the bun,add some sauerkraut and mustard....and BING....!! But I have heard many Muslim's denouce the radical terrorist. It is a small Mosque in town...maybe 75 folks or so....gees, they have open house, participate in food drives, and do NOT come door to door with stupid phamplets....why some even go to grocery stores and WALMART. I've only known one mid-eastern Muslim personally, ...he was a coach for my daughter's soccer team.....great coach..great guy. Iranian. Professor. Refugee. Their loss, our gain.
ReplyDeleteOur gain indeed! Some of the best people in my community are my Muslim friends. And I don't want them hurt in any way.
ReplyDeleteThe antipathy toward refugees is understandable but still reminiscent of the way Europe and the US rebuffed Jewish refugees from Hitler. Yes the possibility of a trojan horse among them is there, but still. I really think we shout take down the Statue of Liberty or at least the placque talking about the tired and poor. We're not that golden door any more.
