¿qué has dicho?

My first reaction as a detail oriented person, was that Bustelo was an Italian brand of coffee and Pilon would have been a better choice if your trying to stereotype someone. My second reaction was "what the hell is he thinking?" Is he trying to tell us that Sonia Sotomayor is no more than some ethnic fortune teller whose advice is sold along with plantains and lotto tickets in some Puerto Rican grocery store? (and by the way, aren't those Puerto Ricans backward and picturesque?)

So what are you saying here, Mr. Danziger? Beats me - what about you?

  1. Oh I think the cartoonist is doing a riff on Judge Sotomayor's statement that included “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life,” "

That statement has burned the prodigious rear ends of the poor under-represented conservative white males all over the nation.

I have the context in which those words were spoken posted over at my blog.

  2. It seems like another too easily misunderstood incident at the New Yorker of recent memory. I'm sure there are low life Republicans twittering over the picture of a third world, racially inferior female with the audacity to sit on the court with God's elect.

Great post, by the way. There's nothing like context.
