Something in the water

New York City water tastes like turpentine
Lord, Lord
And I ain't gonna drink it any more

-from an old blues song-

There must be something in the water if former New York Mayor Ed Koch is insisting that "hundreds of millions" of Muslims are terrorists, but that we're all too afraid to mention it for fear of offending. I don't think it's turpentine.

He didn't give Foxman Neil Cavuto any source for this magic number yesterday or for any other part of his assertion or did he attempt to explain why anyone would feel we're afraid to offend countries we're bombing, maintaining sanctions on, or already occupying. Is it true what they say about New Yorkers if not blowing someone to bits is considered timidity or perhaps an excess of politeness?

And then there's Rudy "9/11" Giuliani who announced to ABC's George Stephanopoulos today that there were no domestic terrorist attacks during George W. Bush's watch.
" . . . we had no domestic attacks under Bush; we had one under Obama."
There must be a lot of something in the water. Between 9/11 and the Anthrax bio-attack, there were over 3000 victims of domestic terrorism. To think there were people who wanted to elect this putz president!

The real agenda of course, is to find fault with the president for not running down the street screaming "terror - terror" which the victims of Republimentia feel is the best way to deal with an unsuccessful suicide bombing. He needs to be more theatrical, to talk more of fear than of courage, to scream and yell and look for bogey men rather than calmly to get on with the business of improving our defenses. Sadly it's not just ex-mayors of New York drinking from this well. They're hardly alone in their hatred of Democrats of color and they're hardly alone in their desire to make the government so dysfunctional that they can slither back into control amidst the chaos. There are millions of them, you know.

  1. One has to wonder - are they lying and people don't know better. Or, are they in such a state of denial?

  4. Several Republicans (e.g. Dana Perino, Dick Cheney) have made public claims recently intended to make people forget that 9/11 occurred during the Bush administration.

I've never yet seen a case where there is this kind of agreement in their statements, without it being a "talking point." I am sure that this is not a mere outbreak of forgetfulness- they are doing this on purpose.

  5. Of course they are! The fact that they went half nuts about whether to call this an attempted attack, a failed attack or "Ohmygod it'sa terrorist attack -- TERRORIST ATTACK!!!" tells the whole story.

They need hysterical gibbering idiots to vote for them out of fear and that's what they're trying to create. I'm sure there's a playbook somewhere, translated from the German.

A real conservative might say -- Obama is making mistakes and he should do this or that instead -- but "tearing apart the very fabrick of America?" Totally batshit!

Too bad we're a nation of idiots -- and proud of it -- or we'd recognize what's going on.

  6. Oh yeah -- Granny2shoes -- The economist, the climatologist, the smug pinhead mediocrity. You haven't even figured out who's writing here, have you?

He's here, he's black, he's got an IQ 50 points higher than yours, he's likely prevented a financial collapse -- but sure anything is better Socialism my ass - I know small children with a better grasp of the subject, you lying, miserable anti-American piece of shit.

Now who the fuck terror bombed Baghdad and killed tens of thousands of innocents, drove 4 million into exile on the basis of forged and fabricated information? Who was it who screwed up the capture of Osama? Who bankrupted the country by bringing back the same policies that has caused a recession each and every time it's been tried? Do you know anything? do you ever read anything but batshit propaganda?

Oh sure anything is better than a black man, you idiotic, lying bigoted, ignorant, traitorous pile of putrid garbage. The planet is worth destroying just to watch you die along with it.

This is my country, you grunting old pig - love it or leave it.

  7. Green Eagle,

Yes, the aim seems to be to offer up the fraudulent claim that 9/11 didn't happen on President Bush's watch in hopes of warping the mind of anyone who is too lazy to read and/or is too young to remember much before around 2005. Of course, the more years go by, the less laughably ineffective such strategery becomes.

I wouldn't blame Dubya personally for 9/11; it's not easy to prevent nefarious attacks. But for the right-talkers to suggest that it didn't happen when it happened is contemptible. Nietzsche wrote that "forgetting" was necessary for the furtherance of civilization; for these "9/11 on Dubya-Watch Deniers," it seems necessary for less salutary purposes. Maybe he ought to do the statesmanlike thing and remind the "forgetful" that he was, no doubt about it, in charge.

Besides, it's insulting to GWB beyond belief -- this was a defining moment in his tenure, and they're trying to erase him from it altogether?! They might as well claim he was never the prez at all -- we were just hallucinating from 2001-08, and Barack Obama stepped in to fill an unoccupied seat.

By the way, I've never been more proud of the current president than when I heard him directly repudiate the snarling Daddy-Staters in our midst. It's refreshing to hear a leader say, in effect, "We will not become a police state, no matter what. Terrorists be damned." Here's hoping that a clear majority, if and when another strike occurs, will take that attitude and make it their own.

  8. Gee! Granny turned out to be popular in these parts.

Let me introduce myself. I am (O)CT(O)PUS, the one who didn't write the above post. Now let me introduce you to the one who did: Our esteemed friend and colleague, Captain Fogg! The Captain gets rightfully upset when someone attributes his words to another writer.

  9. Granny: "We ALL know that 99.99.99 percent of ALL Terrorists are Muslims"

Gee, Granny, that's an awful lot of terrorists ... and a mighty big market for Granny's Super-Duper Double-Chocolate Anti-Terrorist Cookies with oodles of nuts inside. Seems like a missed biz opportunity to me!

  10. See, what we fail to appreciate is that history began on 9/12/2001.
