SHAW EXPOSES IDENTITY THEFT AND RIGHT WING CYBER-TERRORISM RING

Our friend and colleague, Shaw, has done an amazing job of exposing several incidents of identity theft in the blogosphere. In case you missed her posts, link to "JUST SUE" IS JUST A FRAUD and More Photo Identity Theft on the Blog "My Voice/The Voice of Hope?" WE REPORT; YOU DECIDE.

About a year ago, our esteemed Captain Fogg was also the victim of identity theft. With a little help from some friends, the culprit was tracked to a street address and duly chastised. The cyber-scam stopped.

What I am concerned about: This election cycle will be far dirtier than usual, and liberal and progressive bloggers will be targeted and victimized as never before. Please be especially careful about opening email from anonymous or unknown persons. There may be hidden viruses that can capture your keystrokes and your passwords and return these data to sender. I expect these vicious pranks will escalate.

  1. Under our "Resources" links (right column), I have added the Internet site called Right Wing Watch so we can track any reported incidents of misconduct.

  2. This has happened to me recently also, and I have a suspicion that it was the result of a disgruntled wingnut commenter at my blog. Thanks to some great advice, I was able to stop it before it resulted in anything but a little embarrassment, but still, it could have been a lot worse.

  3. Well, I've never had my identity stolen, as far as I know.

To be honest, I have a suspicion that much of it is due to the fact that most people have a natural disinclination to actually be me...

  4. Excellent (and timely) advice. I hope it isn't needed, but I suspect it will be.
