Irritating the Libs

One of the more amusing bits of Republican flotsam that wash up on my electronic shore is one that asks wouldn't it "piss off the Libs" if Bush were to resign in favor of Cheney, who would then appoint Rice as VP and then resign himself leaving her the first black, female president.

If I knew just what they meant by "Lib" I might answer that, but since it's really their creation and adjustable to fit any size or type of circumstance, I won't. Of course it's hidden purpose is to assert that the only reason he won was the novelty of his ancestry. That's something they seem far more concerned with than are "the Libs."

It's going to be harder over the next day or two to dismiss him as a lightweight beneficiary of Affirmative Action when one compares the appointment of Condoleezza the oil toad whose credentials were entirely academic and whose career has been marked with little that is noteworthy, and General James L. Jones, the tough-guy Marine who campaigned with McCain. It does make it look as though Obama is actually concerned with beefing up national security rather than in seeking yes (wo)men or making choices dictated by plutocrats.

They will try however.

  1. Highly unlikely that the reigning monarchs of lawlessness would abdicate in favor of Condo Sleezza.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that Condo Sleezza's real ambition after government is to be chief pro football moll at the NFL.

Besides, the reigning monarchs have too many pardons to dish out to their criminal cronies and will need every last minute in office just to name them.

But I'll be glad to take a wager from any wingnut just to piss 'em off ... and take their money.

  2. Like Bush or Cheney would even THINK of resigning when there's so many last-minute regulatory rewards to give their patron industries.

  3. Besides, that would be "waving the white flag of defeat," no?

  4. With regard to President-Elect Obama's actions up to this point, the words that come most readily to mind -- and that I find stay with me upon reflection -- are "sober" and "responsible." This is not a man who thinks that swaggering or cocking your head a certain way can make up for extreme ignorance of history, economics, social policy, etc. It seems clear to me that he registers the enormity of the burden he has willingly placed upon himself, and is doing his level best to make sure that he will be able to use his authority wisely. No wonder the AM Talk-Radio wingnuts despise him--the qualities Obama shows are precisely the ones they find most intolerable: the capacity for sustained reflection and articulate expression, acceptance of responsibility, a certain generosity of spirit, etc. I could go on, but there's no need.
