Is it just me...

...or is holding a politically partisan and divisive protest in DC on the the weekend of 9/11 a really bad idea?

09.12.09 National Taxpayer Protest | The Tea Party Movement Goes to Capitol Hill

Those involved in planning and promoting this--and everyone who attends--should be ashamed of themselves for exploiting the memories of those who were affected by the 9/11 attacks, for partisan gain.

  1. What? You mean they're serious about that?

  2. A bad idea for whom? I think that since the objective is to keep us so afraid of an omnipresent enemy, it's just what they need to further the campaign to portray Obama as dangerous and weak -- unless, of course, he bombs Mexico or invades Pakistan.

9/11 has long ceased to be about the negligence of Bush or an act of economic sabotage. Like the Battleship Maine, it's just a rallying cry for mindless militarism and a smokescreen for a totalitarian takeover.

It's been such a boon for them, it's no wonder so many people insist it was an "inside job."

  3. Exploitation is right! They shouldn't be able to call themselves Americans.

Fortunately, the crazier they act, the more marginalized they will become.

  4. I hope you're right, but they said that about Fascism in the early 30's and even a small animal is dangerous when cornered.

  5. When I wrote the Lets Go Viral earlier this month, I was toying with the idea of an alternate headline, Remember 9/11, because the national debt numbers are coincidentally 9 and 11.

I nixed the idea because I knew a headline playing off this idea would be patently offensive.

So my comment is this: If the anger of the Tea Baggers is so extreme that they lose all judgement, then let it be so. They will deserve whatever backlash comes their way.

  6. I've taken to labeling the teabagger phenomenon "the teabag terror." This is one reason why.

  7. I like "tempest in a teapot" too. Either way, it's far more polite than calling them a bunch of dumb-ass Republican loonies.
