New Swash Zone Members:
Matt Osborne of Osborne Ink and Elizabeth Mika of The Middle of Nowhere have accepted invitations to join our community. Matt also writes for the Huffington Post. Check out his latest article, Oh, the Horror! NEA Under Fire for Community Organizing. Elizabeth is a psychologist who shares our concerns for healthcare reform, progressive politics, and social justice. Her diverse interests include the arts, cinema, and literature … all in all, a true cephalopod. Welcome, Matt and Elizabeth.
And an Anthology of Essays:
About a month ago, Lorette Luzajic, a Toronto-based writer, contacted me and asked permission to include this post, THE SOUL MURDER OF MICHAEL JACKSON AND THE CULTURE OF VICTIM BLAME, in an anthology of essays. Permission granted. Currently in production, the book will be released sometime in early November.
Matt and Elizabeth are excellent bloggers. Thanks and a warm welcome to them both, and we will all look forward to their future posts!
ReplyDeleteWelcome Matt and Elizabeth!
ReplyDeleteLet me add a warm welcome to Matt, Elizabeth and Shaw! I seem to have missed Shaw's arrival but I've been following her's and Matt's most excellent blogs for some time and they will be a great addition to our beach!
ReplyDeleteI have only recently become aware of Elizabeth but she has proved to be thoughtful and intelligent in her comments and I look forward to her posts and will be adding her blog to my daily reads.
This is so nice - we should have a party! All we need is a teleport and Scotty...
Thanks, all, for the warm welcome. You have a nice community at The Swash Zone and am happy to be part of it.
ReplyDeleteBut tell me, do you all have access to a beach? If so, this makes me, a midlander stuck in The Middle of Nowhere, terribly jealous.
That teleport Rockync mentions sounds very good to me.
P.S. Octo, congrats on your post being included in Luzajic's book.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth,
ReplyDeleteThese are the beaches I have access to while living in Boston's North End.
Elizabeth: "But tell me, do you all have access to a beach?"
ReplyDeleteThe local beach is 3 minutes on foot. It is pictured above at the top of this blog. There are sunrises over water in the morning and sunsets over the lagoon in the evening. Unfortunately for me, I live underwater.
If I open the window, I can hear the surf. If I paddle a few yards across the lagoon, I'm on a beach with no footprints, but the beach is for landlubbers, not the Cap'n -arrrhh.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, and welcome to the Swash Zone!
ReplyDeleteI am also one of the few here not technically NEAR the ocean, but for me it is only a few hours to get to surf and sand.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, we will be taking a few days off to stick our tooties in the still warm waters of the Outer Banks in a couple of weeks.
I do entertain the thought from time to time of moving to the beach, but then, after about three days, I get tired of trying to clean sand out of all my creases and I can't do anything with my hair and the salt air makes my nose run...
I can't keep up with the number of posts this blog produces the way it is. I just discovered your blog a short while ago, really liked it, and have been trying to come up with a well thought out contribution for each of your posts... but lately I've been having to skip a few.
ReplyDeleteMaybe your goal is to become the next Daily Kos or Huffington post? Maybe you'll eventually have to set up on your own server and hire a website designer?
In any case, you appear to be doing quite well (congrats). I'm considering abandoning my blog (again), as I can't seem to figure out how to generate any interest.
Oh no... (painful moan). Let's see: I'd have a three-day drive to one ocean, and about a week-drive to another. (Flying does not count -- what's the point?) Yes, 15 minutes to Lake Michigan, but it's just not the same, fresh water 'n all.
ReplyDeleteYou're lucky creatures. (Though I wonder, Octo, what Internet provider do you use underwater?)
Elizabeth: “Though I wonder, Octo, what Internet provider do you use underwater?”
ReplyDeleteEasy. Two of these connected by a very long string, one of these, and some connectors.
