Kilmeade evoked the Fox of the previous administration in saying
"The only thing I was uncomfortable with [was] when she said it is bigger than any guy with charisma and a teleprompter. That guy is still president. I think you got to -- you got to -- you're no longer the candidate. He's not the guy you're running against. I think you got to give that title its due even if you don't respect the policies."Indeed, although the Fox of today isn't noted for recognizing the similarity or often the identity of Bush Vs. Obama policies, the Fox of the previous administration was fond of criticizing Bush's critics for questioning his wars, questioning his unconstitutional acts and policies, or the state of the economy or anything else for that matter. Remember when the FOX theme of the day was that the economy was robust and "Liberals" were only pretending otherwise? Well we won't get an apology for that one, but it seems at least one Foxer remembers the idea of respecting the President at some basic level, remembers their taunts that disrespecting the president was "hating America."
Can it be that Palin has become an embarrassment to Fox as well as to the human race or is this just the view of one talking head whose gag reflex has been triggered? It will be interesting to watch this develop.
If Palin is expert at anything, it is in playing the victim card ... no matter who said what, when, why, or how ... including herself. Why should we be surprised? It is the way all unrelenting demagogues work.
ReplyDeleteHopefully it won't develop but unravel instead.
ReplyDeleteSome commentary I heard earlier today (can't remember where): Palin is an anti-establishment figure. The more she is criticized, the more heroic her stature becomes ... at least as tea buggers see her.
ReplyDeleteOne implication: Diminish her stature by ignoring her. The less media exposure, the better.
It's not easy to gag the Fox, so if Palin has finally managed it, even though briefly, then maybe the love affair will indeed unravel...
ReplyDeleteEh, who are we kidding? She is pure gold to them, no matter what she says. In fact, the more outrageous things she says, the better, ratings-wise. Glenn Beck is thriving; she has the potential to become an even bigger star for Fox.
We'd sooner see Brian Kilmeade demoted than Palin taken to task for her self-serving, irresponsible and opportunistic behaviors. This is Fox, after all.
The irrational radicals on the far right -- who certainly include Palin -- would be an embarrassment to any thinking person, and there are still come conservatives who qualify as thinking persons.
ReplyDeleteThere will probably be more criticism of Palin and of teabaggerdom from within the right as time goes on. What will be more interesting is their reaction to that. The teabagger mentality includes a massive component of paranoia, and paranoids are not good at forming lasting coalitions with anyone else, or even with each other.
You've gotta see Colbert's take on Palin.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched Colbert for a while. I found the pretend-conservative routine a bit tiresome to tell the truth, but this one was pure and caustic cynicism - my favorite dish.
ReplyDeleteCan't you see her in 1777 with "How's that dissolving the political bond-y thing workin' out for ya?"
1866 and "how's that emancipationy thingy workin' out?"
How's that integration thing workin' out? How about that freedom and justice joke?
Ignoring this satanic harpy makes no more sense than ignoring Hitler, thinking he'll just go away.
Even Lyin' Bill O'Reilly has begun to call them nuts, loons and out of their minds without regard for the feelings of the mentally ill and the clinically stupid.
