Bullshit

"The wheels of commerce are greased with bullshit"

I don't know who first said it, but it's been passed down in my family for at least a couple of generations. It's true, of course, and it's doubly true of politics. Americans seem to have more fondness for the substance than an African dung beetle and far more ability to swallow huge quantities of it. Bullshit is perhaps the one thing you can have and eat and you certainly can do both and pass on more. Despite our horror of wealth distribution, we do love to share it.

A local souvenir shop made the papers over the weekend, for a huge display of Obamahate items, including an alleged explanation by the president of why Michelle hates the flag. Of course he never said it and it was long ago exposed as having been invented by the Bullshit machine formerly known as the Republican party. Yet it's too precious to let go and the dung beetles formerly known as Republicans are still eager to rub it all over themselves, smear their own walls with it and share it with you without any concern for facts.

Remember the headless bodies Arizona Governor Jan Brewer talked about - the rising crime rate that necessitated 'special handling' for anyone appearing to be of native American descent?
You guessed it, like Saddam's WMD, it's all bullshit and unlike the perpetrators of that disastrous hoax, she's willing to admit she made the whole damned thing up to get votes. Think that's the end of it? Surely not and the headless Mexicans will be talked about long after Washington Irving's tale of Sleepy Hollow disappears into the past -- and they'll be blamed on Obama. It will all be blamed on Obama and more so because more aliens are being deported than by the previous administration, fewer are getting in and crime associated with illegal immigration is going down. Why drink the watery light beer of fact when that Bullshit brew is so much more filling?

Does it matter that the President is not a Muslim? Not as long as Fox is out there spending millions, contributing millions, to tell you he is and that they are doing it is Obama's fault anyway. Bullshit sells the worse it smells.

Think Climate change has nothing to do with human activity? Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't, but what you think you know about it has much to do with the Oil Tycoon Koch Brothers who spend a fortune fighting the idea and financing the "Tea Party." Why does that tea taste so much like bullshit?

Think those Climategate e-mails were proof of a vast conspiracy? Sure you do and sure you don't care that they were edited and redacted to make them seem to say something they didn't. Rupert Murdoch and his Arab Oil allies spent more millions to produce enough bullshit to roll in to make all the dogs in America happy.

Those incriminating ACORN pimp videos --- smell that warm bullshit! Why give it up just because it was another right wing media hoax? Since Fox never bothered to tell you that, you can pretend it's still true and you can just keep rolling in it.

I could go on, because the bullshit never stops, but I'm tired of the futility of living in a country where "if it feels good, believe it" is the state religion and where people will fight for their beliefs to the death. We don't live in an information age, we live in a bullshit age. We love Bullshit because it fertilizes the egos of the uninformed.

If these are indeed at last the end times, we can be sure it will not all end with floods and it won't be by any divine agency. It will end with bullshit and it will be your own damned fault.

  1. “We as a nation have placed upon the nations of Islam an unfair injustice, which is why my wife disrespects the flag and she and I have attended several flag-burning ceremonies in the past.”--a lie attributed to Mr. Obama

That a portion of our population believes that a politician would actually say those words in the Age of Google is not just astonishing it is grievously depressing.

We comfort ourselves in thinking these people are not worth a second thought, but just look at the charlatan/huckster Beck and the thousands of those who believe he's come to deliver them from evil, when in fact he's come to deliver himself a fat bank account on their stupidity and willingness to believe bullshit.

That is so nearly perfect that I may just have to steal it. It certainly feels these days as if the stupid rule the country. They certainly rule the airwaves.

  3. I suspect that the people who finance all this aren't quite as stupid as we may think. It's even more horrifying to think they're just doing it for power and money -- to rob us of it.

  4. Careful, Capt. Fogg -- I think you may be revealing the patented secret ingredient in their Tea! That's what gives it its special Zing (TM).

  5. "It will end with bullshit ..."

In my humble cephalopod opinion, it will end in violence because, I for one, won't accept bullshit (and it is not just about bullshit ... there is a smug "I am superior to you" attitude that will attempt to oppress and enslave anyone who thinks otherwise and gets in the way. Yes, everything about the Astroturfers seems to point in that direction).

  6. The possibility is always there. The Bahamas are always there too.

I was just invited to go to Gainseville to protest the good Christians from "Dove Outreach" who plan to burn Korans on Sept 11th. I don't know if I would approve if thousands of protesters showed up with machetes and pitchforks and slaughtered those godslobbering pigs, but I don't know if I would disapprove either.

As far as I'm concerned, religion is too dangerous a weapon to be allowed in the hands of "religious leaders"

  7. I love bacon. You would think one of these idiots would have had a big bacon feed to celebrate their hatred of non bacon eating Muslims.

Opps! I hope they don't read Swash Zone Capt. Fogg. One of them might get the idea to fry bacon over a fire made with Quorans.

  8. Captain, I think that you are right about the people who orchestrate the lies and misinformtaion; they are not stupid and they act with well thought out deliberateness. The problem is that their target audience functions on a mix of fear and ignorance, a dangerous combination. If their beliefs weren't so destructive, they would be laughable. Obama is a Muslim, who since birth has been laying the foundation to become president and destroy America and its Constitution that's why he faked his birth certificate. Michelle hates the Unitged States and as a bonding exercise, the two of them burn the American flag. Presumably to diminish any opposition or just to strike terror in the hearts of Americans, the president supports using death panels to kill grandma.

Why would sane people fall for any of this? I have a theory and a lot of people won't like it. Ultimately I think it is because they perceive Obama as "other." It's not as simple as racism; most of these people would never think of themselves as racists and are genuinely appalled at exhibitions of racist beliefs. However, Obama makes them uncomfortable in ways that they can't quite fathom. It's not a new discomfort. They've always been uncomfortable with dealing with issues of race head-on. These are the people who believe that the most non-racist assertion that they can make is, "I don't see color. All people are alike."

They become defensive when there are those of us who tell them that being colorblind is not a desireable end. If you don't see my color, you don't really see me. All people are not alike; we are all of value but every group or subgroup has its shared cultural norms and beliefs that make the group unique. What I value most about my diverse group of friends is the diversity. Who wants a box of crayons of all one color?

Obama, who is both black and white, creates cognitive dissonance in many people. They can't admit that perhaps they are uncomfortable with his perceived race--black, so they are quick to adopt any other theories offered for their distrust of him. He lies; he's not really one of us; he's anti-American; any theory other than that an intelligent, articulate, well-educated black man scares the hell out them.

These people easily embrace black professional athletes, black performers, because they don't feel threatened by them. Black people who achieve in accepted categories are fine.

So how did Obama win? Because there was a massive get out the vote campaign. People who were desperate for change saw hope embodied in Obama. People went to the polls in record numbers, but it was a momentary fever of involvement; the thrill has long faded and the general apathy has returned in record numbers among those who were inspired to vote to put Obama in office. In addition, many of Obama's strongest supporters have succumbed to disillusionment. They read Obama's message as a promise to implement sweeping change with all deliberate speed. Unrealistic expectations engender disappointment. In spite of all that the Obama presidency has accomplished, there is more attention focused on complaining about what is yet to be done rather than being enthused about what has been done.

As the vocal support for the Obama administration has diminished, so has the criticism become louder. The more outrageous the allegations made against the president, the more that they are believed by those predisposed to fear what his election means to their way of life. Obama's election has rocked the fundamental beliefs of many Americans in the myth of Euro-ancestry superiority that has served them well since the beginnings of America. The country that they want back is the one that existed before Obama capsized the boat.

  9. Sheria,

Its not a theory, its a fact, Obama is "different" and people were suspicious of his differentness and now they are mistrustful of it...

Of course they could not attack him on being black, but they exploit his differentness with the birth certificate and now by focussing on stirring up anti Muslim feelings...

Its what yellow journalism is all about...and of course the MSM has to play along or be labelled as "hiding the truth"

Its no different than what they did to Bill Clinton and the Whitewater Investigation....and if the Republicans take the majority in the House this fall you can bet your bottom dollar that they will spend the next two years doing nothing but investigating every possible thing they can in regards to the Obama White House...

Only to end up like they did at the end of the Clinton Presidency....with absolutely nothing.

The right wing, the money behind the right wing, plays a mean game and they play it to win!

Liberals are the only defense this nation has and we just cannot stoop to that level thus we lose everytime...

We cannot investigate a President or Vice President for some serious constitutional issues...

IF that doesn't tell you that there is a cabal that pulls the strings behind our government I do not know what will...

  10. Sheria, I think your BS detector works perfectly. His ancestry and his party affiliation feed the stereotype those "non-racist" people have, but they can't or won't admit they're simple, old-school racists and so it's about his religion because there are no holds barred today when being an anti-islamic bigot.

And yes, they're scraping the bottom of the barrel. No girlfriends, no constitutional infractions, no high crimes or parking tickets, so they make shit up.

But of course, I'm Bahamian so I'm not embarrassed by any of this.

  11. In the last four months Jan Brewer has been caught lying, three times and counting.

The comments made on June 16, 2010, and June 27, 2010, clearly indicates that the Brewer says that immigrants are beheading people in the United States desert. She first ran away from the question and the press when confronted with the question. She finally when to FOX/ FAKE News to recant her lie.

When Brewer was confronted with the fact the two of her top Advisors (Paul Senseman, Chuck Coughlin) are lobbyist for “Private Prisons” giant CCA she first ran away from the question and the press.

In an attempt to gain sympathy, she first said her father had died in Germany fighting the Nazi in World War II (which ended 1945) but of course we find out the truth that her father was never in Germany and died in California in 1955. Do you see a trend here?

Brewer signed into law SB 1070 Bill (Did she even read it?), lied about the crime rates in AZ (even Janet Napolitano knows that all crimes rates went down), and now we find out that she is in the pockets of PRIVATE PRISONS who stand to benefit with the increase Federal jailing, and thus they will pay her back, I wonder if it has to do anything about the fact that her son was transferred to a brand new prison, he was convicted for rape and sexual assault, I guess the fruit does not fall far the tree.

  12. Benito - "he [son of Jan Brewer, Governor of AZ] was convicted for rape and sexual assault, I guess the fruit does not fall far the tree."

That IS interesting! I didn't know that, and it speaks volumes. Before the end of the month, I'll post an article on the politics of abuse.
