A Brief History of Misogyny in the GOP Universe

Here is a A Brief History Of Republicans Saying Crazy Things About Women (complements of Talking Points Memo):

Senate candidate Todd Akin (R-Missouri): "If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down."

Phil Gingrey (R-GA), an OB-GYN: “That's what he meant when he said legitimate rape versus non-legitimate rape. I don't find anything so horrible about that."

Senate candidate Richard Mourdock (R-Indiana): “I think even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen."

Rush Limbaugh (Radio Disc Junky): “What does that make her [Sandra Fluke]? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can’t afford the contraception."

Foster Friess (Republican donor who invested in Rick Santorum's 2012 presidential campaign): “You know, back in my days, they'd use Bayer aspirin for contraceptives. The gals put it between their knees and it wasn't that costly."

State Representative Roger Rivard (R-Wisconsin): “‘Remember, Roger, if you go down that road, some girls,' he said, 'they rape so easy.'

Erick Bennett, the Republican Senate candidate in Maine who said his domestic violence conviction showed "integrity," repeatedly assaulted his ex-wife by squeezing her neck and threatening to kill her, according to a newly surfaced police report.

We as a party need to start delivering women votes,” pleads RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, whose rancid proboscis is so stuffed with denial, not even the merciful should offer the snot a handkerchief.

  1. Can someone explain what the change in The Swash Zone is all about?

  2. I can't find where OCTO posted what came through my email. Did we lose the private beach? I think change can be a good thing so perhaps we should keep the format for a while, play around with it and see how it works for everyone. Maybe someone can help OCTO add back some of our familiar decor so we don't feel so much like we are in a foreign land.

  3. Working on it. About the widgets: Comment Policy, List of Authors, Archive, Resource List, and Links. How to access these widgets: Mouse over the right edge of the screen, the widgets pop into view. The header photo and cat behind the fishbowl will be more challenging. This level of coding is beyond my skill level - anyone how to help?

  4. Octo,

I think when you move to a dynamic view setup, you may have to just go with the new look and not try to get the old graphics back because using backgrounds and so forth can be rather difficult -- the current "magazine" format is a nice clean look, I think. Just one very ignorant big lizard's opinion,of course, but it's an ignorant lizard who has used dynamic Blogger setups for a while.

  5. Change is good. Learning how to navigate new software is good. Those times I used abusive language while trying to figure out Windows 8, not good. But let's hear for adult neurogenesis!

  6. As for this post, the latest GOP mutterings that the Dems are somehow no female friendly because they want to protect women's rights is just another in a long line of outrages aimed against women. Thank the stars we still have guys like those here at the Zone who not only respect and support women's rights but also recognize us as equals.
